The Youth Ministry at New Hope is an open community in which middle and high schoolers can build meaningful relationships, engage in thought provoking worship and Bible study, learn tools for personal spiritual formation, and cultivate a lifestyle of service and social awareness through missions. Some of the youth activities include Sunday School, Wednesday Night Youth Group, Missions & Retreats.
On Sunday mornings, the students gather in the Youth Room (C105) at 9:45 a.m. During this time, middle schoolers and high schoolers are separated into different classes for bible study led by members of the church. This is a time for youth to interact with their peers through discussion and learning.
Wednesday Night Youth Group
During this time, the youth minister leads Bible studies, discussions, and recreation for the students. From small group interaction to large group discussions, the youth gain vital fellowship opportunities during this time.
For the past 10 years, New Hope Youth have presented a Dinner Theater weekend in early spring. Each performance has been written, directed and performed by New Hope youth and adults. This event has become one of the more popular fundraisers for summer missions. Each year, the script is written with youth group participants in mind so that everyone who wants a role has a place in the show.
Every summer, the youth travel to different communities to spend a week working on whatever projects they need help with. Over the years, they have traveled as far as Ukraine but have also stayed close to home doing work in the church and surrounding New Hope community. This June, our youth will be leading Sports Ministry Camps in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. In addition, our older youth and college students will be in Pavana, Honduras this July to build relationships with the Honduran people while building a cinder block home in a nearby village. Our third mission opportunity this summer will be a trip with PASSPORT Missions at Furman University in Greenville, SC. At PASSPORT, youth explore their faith with other campers from around the United States through bible study, group activities, and missions.
Retreats & Lock-Ins
Each year, our Youth Ministry Council plans multiple weekend retreats to provide opportunity to get away and reconnect with God and with friends. The year begins with a Ski Retreat, followed by a High School Senior Retreat shortly before graduation. Once school starts back in the fall, Middle School and High School students have their own Fall Retreat. During these retreats, the youth participate in activities such as recreation, small group discussions, large group devotions, and worship. Shortly before Christmas, we wrap up the year will an all-night Lock-In. This event is designed to fill the night with games, food, worship, more games and plenty of laughs.
Youth Sunday & Graduate Recognition
Every June, the youth design and lead one Sunday of worship. All youth take on different roles this Sunday to lead New Hope. We also honor our graduates during this day of worship.
